Johan Rozali-Wathooth was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Affin Hwang Asset Management on 1 June 2016, and is responsible for overseeing and executing the overall strategic direction for the Asset Management business. In his current role, Johan oversees the Personal Wealth Business (PWB) and Government-Linked Companies (GLC) sales channels, as well as the Investment Banking Group’s Corporate Communications department.
Johan joined Affin Investment Bank Berhad in 2012 as Director of Corporate Strategy and Communications, and in 2014, following the merger between Affin and Hwang’s investment banking businesses, Johan was appointed Group Chief Strategy Officer of Affin Hwang Capital group, a position he held until May 2017.
Johan has accumulated more than sixteen years of experience in the financial industry, working in various fields including corporate restructuring, leverage loan investments, distressed debt investments and private equity investments. He has worked for global institutions such as HSBC Banking Group, HIG Capital, Highland Capital, Babson Capital, Ernst & Young LLP and Andersen LLP.
Johan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE), which he attended as a British Commonwealth Chevening Scholar. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) with the Institute of Chartered Accountant of England and Wales (ICAEW), as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder (CFA) with the CFA Institute.
In addition to his roles within the Affin Hwang Capital group, since 2012 Johan has also held the position of Honorary Treasurer of the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association (MaLRA), a charitable organisation dedicated towards assisting leprosy patients, ex-patients and their families.
